During her short stay in the Netherlands, Dr. Bobie will make herself available to explore the subject with Dutch students.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cI am excited to bring African and diasporic perspectives together in a space of learning, reflection, and dialogue,\u201d<br \/>\nsays Dr. Bobie.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The short course is aimed at participants seeking to understand how African and Afro-diasporic identities have been shaped by history, culture, and colonial legacies \u2014 and how those insights remain relevant in the contemporary Dutch context.<\/p>\n<article class=\"align-center\"><div class=\"field field-media--field-media-image field-formatter-image field-name-field-media-image field-type-image field-label-hidden has-single\"><figure class=\"field-type-image__figure image-count-1\"><div class=\"field-type-image__item\">\n        <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/sites\/default\/files\/styles\/mediavolledig\/public\/2025-10\/african%20studies.jpg\" width=\"1160\" height=\"773\" alt=\"african studies\" class=\"image-style-mediavolledig\" \/><\/div>\n    <\/figure><\/div>\n\n  <\/article><p>This is the first short course launched by the Broos Institute in a series to be rolled out in the coming months. Upcoming courses will include <em>Entrepreneurship in the African Diaspora<\/em> and <em>Writing for Social Impact.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The courses are offered in collaboration with partner university Millar Institute for Transdisciplinary Studies (MITDS). Participants will receive a certificate of participation, co-signed by the Millar Institute \u2014 including for the<em>\u00a0Africa and diaspora studies<\/em> course.<\/p>\n<hr \/><h3><strong>Program and Format<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>The course takes place on Tuesdays from October 21 through November 11, 2025, with a final presentation on December 2.<br \/>\nEach session lasts two hours, including a short break, and will be held at the Broos Institute office, Stationsweg 28, 1382AB, Weesp.<\/p>\n<p>Participants will work with academic literature, engage in group discussions, and reflect on current social themes around identity, ethnicity, gender, and diaspora.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Duration:<\/strong> 5 sessions (Oct 21 \u2013 Nov 11, with presentation on Dec 2)<br \/><strong>Instructor:<\/strong> Prof. Dr. Adwoa Owusuaa Bobie<br \/><strong>Location:<\/strong> Broos Institute classroom, Stationsweg 28, 1382AB, Weesp<br \/><strong>Fee:<\/strong> \u20ac300 per participant<br \/><strong>Language:<\/strong> English<br \/><strong>Certificate:<\/strong> Participation certificate accredited by Millar Institute<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Registration<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Registration is open via <a href=\"https:\/\/www.broos.institute\">www.broos.institute<\/a>.<br \/>\nPlaces are limited to ensure a small-scale, interactive experience.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>About Prof. Adwoa Owusuaa Bobie<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Dr. Bobie is part of the Faculty of Humanities at <strong>KNUST<\/strong> in Ghana and has published extensively on topics such as identity, ethnicity, gender, and the African diaspora. Her work emphasizes the importance of African perspectives in global discussions on diversity and culture.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>About the Broos Institute for African Studies and Research<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>The <strong>Broos Institute<\/strong> promotes academic and social education at the intersection of the African diaspora, heritage, identity, and emancipation.
