Ekow Nimako premieres at the Wereldmuseum Amsterdam with a work made of one million black LEGO® bricks

Internationally renowned artist Ekow Nimako will open a new temporary exhibition at Wereldmuseum Amsterdam on October 31, featuring a monumental Afrofuturist artwork constructed from one million black LEGO® bricks: Building Black Civilizations – The Nile 3025 CE. This new and largest architectural piece to date also marks Nimako’s Dutch premiere.

Commemorating in Color

This weekend, together with alderman Bob Roelofs, I laid a wreath on behalf of the municipality of Arnhem for the first time during the Poppy Day commemoration in Oosterbeek. A first, prompted by my questions in the city council about why Arnhem—with its rich history of freedom and resistance—had so far been absent from this international ceremony.

AFROVIBES FESTIVAL 2025 – LEGACY

​​​​​​​Afrovibes returns in 2025 with the 22nd edition of the Festival from 2 to 12 October. In Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Utrecht and Haarlem. This year’s annual festival will focus on Legacy with a varied programme of dance, theatre, music, spoken word and talk shows by contemporary artists from South Africa, Ivory Coast, Cape Verde, Morocco and the African diaspora. Afrovibes brings together big names of African artists, as well as upcoming talent with the potential to become the big names of tomorrow.
